Photophobia

Photophobia is abnormal sensitivity to artificial or natural light. Common causes include inflammation or infection of the iris (iritis) or the cornea.

Wearing sunglasses when in bright sunlight may offer enough protection for people with mild sensitivity. But people with severe sensitivity may need to avoid light as much as possible and cover their eyes in any lighted environment. The cause for the light sensitivity should be determined, since treatment may cure the problem.
